Panthers Look to Jump-Start Pass Rush Against Struggling Saints Offensive Line

If there’s been one kink in Carolina’s defensive armor, it’s been the lack of a consistent pass rush. Graded -1.3 and ranked #23 by ProFootballFocus, the Panthers pass rush hasn’t produced results.  Kawaan Short and, rotational end, Mario Addison have been the lone bright spots, but Carolina’s starting defensive ends haven’t generated much. Charles Johnson was invisible as a rusher against Houston, and Kony Ealy may still be drawing penalty flags.

Depth was one of the questions surrounding the Panthers backfield after releasing franchise leading rusher DeAngelo Williams this offseason. With training camp and two pre-season contests in the books, the position is quickly looking to be one of the tougher cuts to make in getting to the final 53-man roster.

It wasn’t the crisp start we had hoped for Carolina. Matt Cassel moved the ball effectively against the Panthers first team defense, which failed to generate any real pressure. Fantasy Football: Fantasy Impact of NFC South Rookies

The NFC South struggled last season in the fantasy football department. There were only six players that finished the 2014 season (Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Greg Olsen) ranked in the top 10 for their positions overall. Drew Brees took a small step back and was the sixth ranked quarterback with 302.98 fantasy points. Greg Olsen had a great year and was the 4th ranked tight end. The biggest surprise was the positive impact of rookie wide receivers Kelvin Benjamin, and Mike Evans.
