Carolina Panthers House is Burning Down

Through four weeks of the Panthers 2023 season, I can’t help but think of that scene from Revenge of the Nerds where they chanted “our house is burning down” standing outside of the remains of the Alpha Beta house.

It’s rough in these streets, Panthers fans. The newly assembled super-squad of coaches has turned out to be Chinese-made knock-offs, and Bryce Young, a rookie quarterback who was supposed to be so cerebral that his transition to the NFL would be seamless. Well, success has been elusive, and Panthers fans are getting restless. Just four weeks in, and some fans are calling Young a bust or, at best, the wrong pick. Reich has been declared the wrong hire already, and fans are scared things aren’t going to get better in the coming season because of the lack of a #1 draft pick.

The house is on fire, but there is still time to grab an extinguisher. There’s definitely going to be a lot of smoke damage and the need for restoration, but all isn’t lost. Carolina has invested too much in Young to panic and think they got it wrong already. Reich’s future is certainly less secure, but I don’t think the solution is to declare the house a total loss just yet.
